Introduction:
Tofu is another very versatile ingredient that will increase your intake of plant-based protein. You can use tofu in a stir fry by purchasing a firmer variety which is available in the produce aisle of your grocery store. Word to the wise, tofu goes rancid rather quickly. So, you do want to eat it within the week of purchasing, or else you may begin to smell a very foul odor in your refrigerator and likely the tofu will be the culprit. Here are 6 things to do with tofu to get your creative juices flowing.

1. Add to stir-fries:
To add tofu to stir fries, simply cut it into cubes and after cooking the vegetables, noodles or rice, in any meats if you plan to serve me to, add the tofu at the last minute, heated up and give a quick stir.

2. Mix it in as a filler:
Tofu also makes the perfect filler for any variety of recipes, including main dishes, soups, egg-based meals, sweet or savory pies and even desserts.
You have probably seen soy protein listed as an ingredient for some of the plant-based foods sold at stores. You can do this at home using fresh tofu that you process according to the recipe.
3. Add as a sweet dessert.
Examples:
A sweet pudding can be created by whipping together tofu, coconut, honey, vanilla and other ingredients.
Make pumpkin pie out of pumpkin but also blend in some tofu for added protein.
4. Replace egg with tofu for breakfast.
Add tofu to your egg omelet (vegetarian) to increase protein but reduce consumption of egg.
5. Use as a salad topper.
Making a fresh salad? Top it with tofu. How about fresh lettuce, cilantro, oranges, and green onion? Toss with sesame dressing, add a few tofu cubes and sesame seeds.
6. Fry it up:
Make fried tofu cubes. Roll in panko breadcrumbs. Fry in hot oil for about 2 minutes on each side until golden brown. Serve with veggies, rice, and your favorite stir-fry sauce.
